TRAVELOGUE, 2005. An interaktive game format

The »Travelogue« game was developed by Monica Studer and Christoph van den Berg in 2004/2005 as a contribution to the online project 56kTV bastard channel. Travelogue falls into the game art category. In the virtually accessible image space of a hotel room, the player/viewer of the work has to complete various tasks requiring significant combinative efforts and differing approaches until he or she finds the exit from the image prison (hotel room). This artistic game develops an image story, the progress of which must be interactively discovered through playing the game.
( Text on Travelogue by Claus Pias)

The work offer includes the web game (Flash file and HTML pages) for online and offline use, and a film of the course of the game (736x506, 33 min., mp4, AV) on DVD in a numbered DVD case signed by the artists. >In addition, the package contains a print of a Buddha motif from the game (size: 51x30 cm).

STUDER / VAN DEN BERG
T.R.I.P.     2010

Through the concentrically animated color progression, a constantly changing tunnel of light opens up in the circular color field - a color space with intensive aesthetic and emotional qualities. As a pictorial image machine that, in a randomized way, processes algorithms predetermined by the artists and never reproduces the same color sequences over longer periods, T.R.I.P. makes a concept born of the digital present a reality. But it also reflects the traditions of modern art history: the abstract films of the 20s, European concrete art and American color field painting of the 50s, the suggestive image effects of psychedelic light shows, Op Art and the visualization of time tunnels and wormholes of science fiction films, beginning with Kubrik's "2001 - A Space Odyssey".

Animation / randomized Flash program
